MINOR ELECTRICAL ISSUES ONLY
Electrical jobs our Handyman Can Do!
Important Note: Electrical work can be dangerous if not done correctly. Always prioritize safety. If you are unsure about your ability to complete a job safely, call a qualified electrician.
A handyman can tackle a variety of minor electrical tasks in your home, but there are limitations. Here's a breakdown of what a qualified handyman can do for you:
Minor Installations and Replacements:
Swapping Light Fixtures: This includes replacing outdated chandeliers, pendants, or ceiling lights with new ones.
Replacing Sockets and Switches: Handymen can replace faulty or outdated plug sockets and light switches.
Adding Sockets or Switches: If you need an extra outlet or switch in a convenient location, a handyman can install it for you.
Installing Extra-Low Voltage (ELV) Cabling: This covers things like doorbell wiring, telephone lines, and thermostats (as long as they are low voltage).
Other Permissible Tasks:
Moving Existing Sockets, Light Fixtures, or Switches: As long as they are staying in the same room and the wiring isn't being altered significantly, a handyman can move these electrical components.
Repairing or Replacing Damaged Cords: If a lamp or appliance has a frayed or damaged cord, a handyman can replace it.
Adding Trunking or Conduit: This plastic casing can hide unsightly wiring and improve the aesthetics of a room.
Important Limitations:
Any Work in Bathrooms or Kitchens: Due to the presence of water, these areas require a qualified electrician to ensure safety.
Rewiring: A complete rewire of your home's electrical system is a complex job that should only be done by a certified electrician.
Major Electrical Fault Diagnosis or Repair: If you have flickering lights, tripping circuits, or any other major electrical problems, call a qualified electrician to diagnose and fix the issue.
Remember:
Even seemingly simple electrical jobs can be hazardous. If you are at all uncomfortable or unsure about your ability to complete a task safely, don't hesitate to call a qualified electrician.
It's always better to be safe than sorry!
For any electrical work that falls outside of this list, it's best to consult with a registered electrician who can ensure the work is done correctly and meets all the UK regulations.
